Apreamare Gozzo 48 Cabin Review: Art of the Italian Gozzo
One of the most famous and longest-running models of the Italian builder Apreamare was the Apreamare 48, which remained in production (in different versions) from 2006 to 2022. The reason for such popularity was the unique spirit of this lovely model: the combination of the traditional gozzo design with a semi-displacement hull and the dimensions of a classic yacht with a solid roof.
Legend gets a worthy successor
At the Cannes Boat Show in 2025, Apreamare delighted gozzo lovers with her worthy successor, the Gozzo 48 Cabin, currently the largest model in the Gozzo line.
Designed under the guidance of Cataldo Aprena, CEO of Apreamare, in collaboration with Marco Casali for exterior design and Umberto Tagliavini for hull design, the new 48 is impressive, but never aggressive, with wide hips and a fantastic, unique stern combining classic and contemporary lines.
Exterior design
The new model is as romantic as her predecessor even without wooden elements on the hull, as her dark blue hull with a red line represents tradition.
The large stern platform is accessible via a telescopic gangway that can be converted into submersible staircase, and most of the platform can be moved by a hydraulic system, too. Inside, the stern area is a spacious sundeck with a skipper's cabin below.
Moving backrest allows the sundeck to be used as a sofa, with a table that rises from the cockpit floor. Wide side passages with a high railing lead safely to the bow, where another large sundeck awaits, with an additional bench on top of the superstructure.
Interior architecture
The interior inside a raised cabin holds a galley, a dining room and command post, all light and airy. To the left, a straight galley has delightful blue counter tops, wenge wood cabinet doors and leather handles. The diner-salon opposite the galley invites diners with a large and comfortable L- or U-shaped sofa, choice of the owner.
The skipper’s seat is innovative: it’s part of the sofa and ca be raised for better visibility. The dark blue control panel is big enough for multi-function displays and the distinctive Volvo Penta throttle levers with a joystick for manoeuvring. Huge windows and bright furniture make this interior delightfully Italian, as well as elegant enough to impress.
Luxury below deck
The staircase in the middle of the salon leads below deck, where a semi-circular space connects the cabins. The master cabin in the bow impresses with spaciousness and has a large centrally placed bed, and is furnished in wenge wood, with glossy black details. Both bathrooms combine wood and blue tiles, and boast surprisingly spacious shower cabins.
Two single-bed guest cabins are located a step lower below the salon and enjoy full standing height. Apreamare also offer the option of moving the galley into the hull (to replace one of the guest cabins), as well as a wide selection of fabrics and colours for personalization of every detail.
Performance and sea trial
The model owes her exquisite navigation capabilities to the V-hull with semi-displacement elements which ensure stability and efficient wave-breaking. The unit we tested was powered by two 550-hp Volvo Penta D8-IPS 700 engines, and at a cruising speed of 23 knots the consumption was around 134 litres per hour. The maximum speed we reached on the test was 31.4 knots, and we achieved planning at 13 knots.
For easy cruising, choose 8 knots, with the consumption of only 15 litres per hour, or 11 knots with a consumption of 58 litres per hour. Docking was extremely easy, thanks to the IPS system and bow thruster, but interestingly, Apreamare also offer the option of a classic shaft drive, which will surely be appreciated by more experienced owners.
The new Apreamare Gozzo 48 Cabin is both a logical and impressive step forward in the evolution of the brand. Still as charming as ever and retaining the recognizable aesthetics of her predecessor, the new model is a delightful upgrade, offering a spacious layout and solutions that take comfort to a higher level.
Stable, steadfast and thrifty, this model is a worthy successor to the legendary 48 and a clear indicator of the direction in which Apreamare are building their future, combining history with modern nautical trends.
