Mokosh: The Art of Split Living
From laid-back brunches to vibrant evenings, Mokosh isn’t just a restaurant – it’s where history, art, and delicious Mediterranean flavors come together in a way that feels both exciting and comforting
Hidden behind stone walls and tall Mediterranean trees in the very center of Split, Mokosh breathes in the rhythm of the day. Located within the historic Vila Tončić, just a few minutes from Diocletian's Palace, this location hides a garden that carries the atmosphere of an old Dalmatian residence made for gathering and long afternoons in the shade. In its center, a fountain soothes the space, while hidden paths and terraces invite guests to linger as lunch slowly transitions into evening and the villa sinks into warm light. Originally envisioned as the private residence of architect Kamil Tončić, the villa remains a living part of Split's cultural history today.
Today, the villa's original Art Nouveau (Vienna Secession) architecture enters into a bold dialogue with contemporary Croatian art and an award-winning interior. The design concept blends elements of the past and modernity, intertwining the elegance of the Vienna Secession with the bold features of the Memphis Group.
Through the concept of 'Historical Threads, Modern Fabric', an ambiance has been created that radiates art and creativity, while simultaneously providing a cozy, warm, and relaxing atmosphere. This exceptional aesthetic signature has been recognized globally, earning Mokosh the prestigious SBID International Design Excellence Award in interior design.
Mokosh feels secluded yet intimate, vibrant, shaped by a quiet and playful Mediterranean spirit. The kitchen fully follows this philosophy: it offers contemporary Mediterranean cuisine deeply rooted in Dalmatian tradition, shaped by the city itself and the relaxed atmosphere of the garden. The restaurant's culinary excellence has been confirmed by the renowned gastronomic guide Gault&Millau. Ultimately, Mokosh is a place where architecture, superb food, music, and conversation blend into a true, complete Mediterranean experience.
